Welcome to San Diego

The Southern California city of San Diego is a diverse, urban city with temperate weather, historic and eclectic architecture, surprising sea views, and a rich history.  This sprawling city contains over a million residents, and is dotted throughout with excellent schools, sports centers, events, and architecture that is just as diverse as its residents.

Known as the “Birthplace of California”, San Diego was historically inhabited by the Kumeyaay people. It became the first site on the western coast of the Americas to be visited and settled by Europeans.  It eventually became part of Mexico in the early 1800’s, but was incorporated into the United States of America in 1850.  As it developed in the 20th century, San Diego became known for its military and fishing industries.  Recently, San Diego has seen a boom in biotechnology, telecommunications, and tourism.  Along with this boom, San Diego’s housing market has seen its median home value rise.

To get a taste of the local dining, check out Bencotto Italian Kitchen, which is situated in popular Little Italy.  Wander around Little Italy, and sample the numerous breweries and local restaurants dotted throughout.  

For delicious, fresh seafood, head over to Ironside Fish & Oyster.  It’s unique decor, delicious clam chowder, and fresh oysters make it a worthwhile visit.  Fresh–caught fish and wonderful ocean views are available over at Fish Market, which serves the oysters, poke, and fish that it also sells in its seafood market.

With a diversity of people and interests, San Diego offers something for everyone!  Take advantage of San Diego’s temperate weather with some outdoor adventures.  Relax or play at one of the numerous beaches in Mission BayBalboa Park offers a smorgasbord of activities, including the world–famous San Diego Zoo, museums, shopping, and dining.  Enjoy a fun day with the family out at Petco Park, the home park of the San Diego Padres.  Music–lovers will enjoy the frequent big–name concerts at Humphry’s Concerts by the Bay, as well as pop and rock at the annual Kaaboo Music Festival.  Enjoy roller coasters, and take delight in aquatic animals with a visit to SeaWorld San Diego.  As one of the United States’ most populous cities, there is never a shortage of things to do, or sights to see.
