Ode for Adlai

NFS

This particular piece, “Ode for Adlai” was made after the loss of my son, Adlai.  He was 16 weeks (gestational age), and was birthed after he passed away in the womb.  Adlai means “God is just”.  We named him with the belief that though God may take from us, all that He has given is undeserved.  “The Lord giveth; the Lord taketh away; blessed be the name of the Lord”.  We trust that God is just in His dealings with us.  The art itself is reminiscent of a piece I made called “Living in the Resurrection”, but in miniature.  It also is distinct from that piece in that it contains a large amount of ash, yet with the remaining lily-seed pod and the brilliant beeswax yellow that recall the hope of life that is retained even in the sight of death.
