Sojourners

Beeswax on slate, 2012 “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul” -1 Peter 2:11.  Each of these strands of wax appears somewhat representative of individuals or groups of people.  It is almost as if they are circling, together, around a central source.  Yet, truly, they are all immobile, embedded firmly on a hard surface.  This serves to symbolize the Church in the world–founded on Christ, appearing to fluctuate, but always founded on Him, always in need of viewing themselves as sojourners in this world.
