Write Kindness and Truth
Beeswax, hyssop, on slate, 2012 The title of this work is derived from Proverbs 3:3, “Do not let kindness and truth leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” The surface on which the wax is painted is a slate roofing panel, which resembles the tablet mentioned in the Proverb. A broad yellow stroke, like a sunrise, hangs and then drips over the upper corners of the tablet. Hyssop clings to the center. All of this serves to symbolize our need for divine kindness and fidelity to be emblazoned on our hearts. …
