Weeping Brushstroke

This particular piece, “Weeping Brushstroke”, is sculptural and painterly.  The surface is built up in the form of a sculpture, but over this is lain a large stroke that appears to “weep” or drip.  This is a reference both to the concept of lamentation in general, as well as to the need for contemporary forms of art to lament their arrogance.

This series was created in 2020 before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.  I began the series after the loss of my grandfather, and continued it through the loss of relationships in COVID, and then the loss of my son, Adlai.
